The retreat is open to all Jewish families, including those with no previous relationship with CYJ. Newcomers to our camp network are welcome to come and get a taste of what we do every summer. While we love to TALK about camp all day, nothing beats DOING camp for a weekend to help kids imagine what a summer at CYJ can be. You may find yourself registering your kids for the summer on the way home from Family Camp!

We hear that the “Schlep” for two nights is a lot for those that travel from further distances. Come Thursday and enjoy MORE Family Camp time. You could work remotely Friday, tour the Texas Hill country, hang-out, or enjoy the facilities. Includes meals and accommodations. Programming will begin Friday at 3:00pm

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT WILL WE DO DURING THE WEEKEND?

Our schedule offers plenty of time to be busy and plenty of time to relax and just enjoy being at camp with family and friends. We offer a variety of family, kids, and adult programming throughout the weekend. Our kids camp program will run during select times on Saturday where our counselors will run kid-only programs and give parents time to relax and enjoy our adult programming.

You aren’t required to follow the schedule and you can opt in or out of any activity. If your just kids want to play on the playground from sun-up to sundown, that’s okay! If your teens want to hang out at the hammocks and just talk the day away, that’s okay, too. We encourage you to bring books, games, sports equipment, or anything else that sounds like a good activity for YOUR family.

WHAT ARE THE ACCOMMODATIONS LIKE?

At Family Camp, we provide 4 types of (air-conditioned) accommodations. Families can choose to stay in one of our 22 cabins. Each unit includes 10 bunk beds and a bathroom with 3 sinks, 2 toilets, and 2 showers.

Families can also choose to stay at our Lodge. The Lodge accommodations offer single rooms furnished with 1 twin bed, 1 queen bed, a sink, and a private bathroom (toilet and shower). Each Lodge room can host a family of 3.

The Namaste Center accommodation offers private rooms and bathrooms. Each room has 1 queen size bed, 1 bunk bed (2 twins), and a private bathroom with shower.

Our newest housing, the Retreat Village, offers private rooms and bathrooms. Each room has 2 queen size beds and a private bathroom with shower. You are welcome to request your preferred accommodations. While we cannot guarantee your request, we will do our best to accommodate it.

WHAT WILL THE FOOD BE LIKE?

Our guests always seem surprised at how good our “camp food” is. It’s true, we are a kids’ summer camp, but don’t think all we do is hot dogs and chicken nuggets. We run a year-round retreat business, after all! We will have some of the kids’ camp favorites (yes, that includes Saturday morning coffee cake) as well as plenty of grown-up choices. All the food is guaranteed kosher in our separate meat and dairy kitchens.

CAN YOU TELL ME MORE ABOUT THE RELIGIOUS PRACTICES OF FAMILY CAMP?

We observe the laws of kashrut at Family Camp and maintain respect for Shabbat. All of Saturday’s activities will be Shabbat-friendly and we do ask that families not use electronics in public spaces. Attendants can, of course, observe Shabbat to their own comfort level in the privacy of their rooms. We hope that you will join us Friday evening and Saturday morning for our traditional CYJ Texas Shabbat services. We will begin Friday night dinner and Saturday lunch with blessings all together.
