This summer, the hottest chug at camp wasn’t sports. Or drama.
It was the farm.
More kids wanted in than we had room for. And honestly? We get it.
What happens in farm chug?
Campers feed the animals, collect eggs, brush the goats, hold the rabbits, and give the tortoises baths.
They also walk chickens on leashes.
Things you didn’t know about goats
They don’t eat everything.
Drop food on the ground and they won’t touch it. Snobs.
Also, rabbits can see 360 degrees. And David the tortoise plays soccer. (Also on video.)
Who lives there?
8 goats (5 Nigerian dwarf, 3 fainting. Yes, they really faint.) 4 Flemish giant rabbits 3 African sulcata tortoises 16 chickens 1 very busy rooster
The rabbits live in an Airstream. The chickens live in a truck.
Both were donated by a generous friend of camp.
The humans behind it
Wendy Powers runs the farm chug and cares for the animals all year. Brad, our head of maintenance, keeps building them upgrades.
The campers loved them so much they demanded an Instagram account for the animals.
Follow along at @cyjfarm.
What’s next?
Ducks are on the way (they already have a boat). Llamas too.
Visiting camp? Ask Wendy for fresh eggs. The hens lay about 13 a day.
They’re not going to eat themselves.
